Snapshots 24.07.15 – It’s been a while

I know I haven’t posted anything for so long and I do apologise! I have not quit the blogging world I promise (I would never leave you!) – I just haven’t had the time (or motivation, to be honest) to post. On the bright side I’m going on holidays soon so will have loads of fun new posts for you when I am back so stay tuned.

Here’s a quick review of what’s been up lately:

Why I love Brighton

brightonAbout 4 years ago I moved to Brighton to do my Masters at Sussex University. Fast forward almost two years and I’m still here, working and living by the sea. There have been times when I’ve thought Brighton is too small and I needed to explore somewhere new but the truth is Brighton has a special little place in my heart. I don’t plan on staying here forever but when I leave I’m going to miss it – and this is why:

TED talks you need to watch now

TED-3If there is one thing I love doing when I have some free time it’s watching TED talks. If you’re looking to get inspired, motivated or need to relax for a bit then get a nice cup of tea, sit back and watch a TED talk. I promise you will not regret it! They are simply inspirational and some of them are mind-blowing. If you haven’t heard of Ted Talks – they are a set of global conferences founded in 1984. They started off focusing mainly on technology and design but have since broadened to almost all subjects – from education to slavery, it is all about “ideas worth spreading”.

If you have never watched a Ted Talk then you MUST watch at least one NOW.

To make it a bit easier (as there are so many to choose from!) I’ve made a list of some of my favourites – get ready to listen to some awesome people. In no particular order:

A bit of sewing

sewinbrightonToday a friend and I had a lovely afternoon in a sewing workshop. We’d been wanting to start sewing classes for a while and had been looking at different sewing schools in our area. Pinterest has actually inspired us to want to do a lot of DIY and I’m so glad we decided to go to a workshop at Sew in Brighton! This sewing school started in 2008 and holds about 10-15 classes and workshops every week – their classes include “Learn to use a sewing machine”, “Lampshade making workshop”, “Make your own dress” among many others. So whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sewer, there will be a class for you if you’re interested!

The workshop we went to today was called “Learn to make a bag” and the teacher was lovely – extremely helpful and cheerful. It was a beginner’s course that included learning how to use a sewing machine, making a bag out of a fabric of your choice and taking the bag home with you! Oh – there is also tea and coffee for everyone (who doesn’t love that??). The workshop costs £55 but we actually found a deal in Groupon and managed to do it for £25.

For all the overthinkers out there

Do you spend your time going over situations over and over again asking yourself “why” and worrying about different scenarios? Do you find it difficult to actually make a decision? Do you worry about the small details and panic under pressure because you don’t have the time to go through everything the way you would want to? If so, you are probably an overthinker – like me.

The truth is overthinking will cause your stress levels to rise – you will constantly be tired of worrying and you will create problems that weren’t even there in the first place. It will stop you from doing things because you think about all the possible outcomes and you prefer not to take the risk. It will eat you from the inside.

The bad news is it’s not an easy thing to get rid of, especially if you’ve been doing it all your life. The good news? There are a few things you can do to have control over it – it takes time but it is possible. Here are a few things I’ve been doing:

May favourites

MayfavouritesWith a blink of an eye May has ended and it’s time for me to share with you what my favourites have been. As I’ve mentioned before I’m really trying not to spend too much (until summer shopping spree which is coming soon!) so I haven’t bought anything major. However, I did fall in love with a few things!

Awards – Thank you!

awardsI have been nominated to a few Awards in the last few months but have been completely unable to get back to everyone or reply to all the questions. I apologise and I know some of these are well overdue but I don’t think I will be able to get back to everyone individually. Due to that I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to the following blogs for nominating me (without you blogging just wouldn’t be fun!!):
