Sunday Pleasures: Chocolate Cake

chocolate cakeOnce again my internet failed me this weekend – seriously guys it is getting on my nerves! I have started looking at other internet providers because the one I’m with at the moment (Talk Talk) is the worst I have ever been with. Saying that, does anyone have any suggestions on a good internet provider that doesn’t stop working for whole days/weeks? If you do please let me know in the comments below!

So yesterday was a pretty lazy day (love them!) – I had a couple of friends over and we spent the day watching movies and baking (what else could you want? haha). We made a chocolate fudge cake which turned out pretty good so the recipe must be shared as usual!

For the cake:

  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 cups of flower (wholewheat or plain)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Half a cup of chocolate powder (I used Cadbury Bournville Cocoa powder)
  • 1 table spoon of baking powder

For the topping and chocolate layer in between:

  • 2 cans of condensed milk
  • a table spoon of butter
  • dark chocolate (this depends on how sweet you want it – the sweeter you want it, the less dark chocolate you should use)

1. For the cake:

  • Preheat the oven at 180C
  • Beat the egg whites until they are nice and fluffy. Add the egg yolks and the sugar.Mix well
  • Slowly pour in the milk
  • Add the flower, chocolate powder and baking powder
  • Grease a round cake tin and pour in the mixture
  • Place in the oven for about 45 minutes

2. For the topping and layer:

  • Place the butter, condensed milk and chocolate bar in a pan
  • Stir until it’s well blended and remove once it’s no longer liquid

3. Assembling the cake:

  • Once the cake is ready slice it in half – this can be easily done with a thread
  • Spread a layer of chocolate on the bottom half of the cake
  • Carefully place the top half of the cake on top
  • Cover the cake with the remaining chocolate

Enjoy my dears!

Lots of love,

  1. That looks so good! I was in the mood for baking earlier today (instead of revising, obviously) but I couldn’t find a recipe for something I really felt like making. But I think I have now!

  2. This looks sooo good! If only everyone I knew wasn’t wheat or dairy free!! Thankfully I’m not so I may well be making a cake just for me! πŸ™‚
