First I need to apologize for not posting before this week but it has been manic! I have so many things going on at the moment I’ve had no time for myself! The good thing is I am going to Lisbon tomorrow for a week *happy dance* and cannot wait! Just to make it clear, it is not like it’s my first time there – I lived in Lisbon for almost 10 years and that’s where my parents live. However, as the organizational freak I am, I have to share my packing tips/steps with you. I am not a light traveler (I wish I was) but I still have a few things I follow in order to make packing easier (and to make it all fit in one suitcase!). Here are the steps I take:
Know where and when you’re travelling
No need to take a bikini if you’re going to Paris in November right? It’s all about choosing the right items to fit the needs of your travel. So I know Lisbon’s temperature has been around 15º during the day but then it drops to around 8º in the evening. That narrows down what I need to take considerably. No winter coats and no bikinis and sandals needed!
Make a checklist
I suggest packing versatile items that can be worn in different occasions and can be dressed up or dressed down (check out my wardrobe essentials post here). Try and think of outfits so you don’t take unnecessary things. I usually pack 2 tops for every bottom which helps me decide what to take and what not to take. Also remember that not all clothes are worth their weight. If too bulky and unnecessary – leave it behind! This is what my checklist looks like at the moment:
Give yourself plenty of time to pack
Do not leave everything for the last minute. Make the list a few days before and pack at least a day or two before. Lay everything on your bed before packing so you can have a clear idea of what you’re taking. You will save yourself from all the stress!
If you are taking a suitcase and a bag/backpack I advise you to pack all your valuables in the bag you are taking on board with you. Now stop procrastinating and just do it! Fold everything neatly and efficiently for it all to fit. Personally, I roll everything to avoid creases and to fit more things so maybe you can give that a try.
If you are travelling soon I hope you enjoy wherever you are going to!
Have a great weekend my dears.
Lots of love,
