When in Rome…

I spent 4 days in Rome. 4 days of walking and eating incessantly in this city like no other. Every corner of this place has an amazing monument, sculpture or church to be admired. There are 2000 year old monuments, art by Michelangelo and Raphael and ice cream that will  blow your mind. There are also long ticket lines everywhere, crazy traffic, expensive meals and crowds wherever you go.

I took the city in with full force and walked for miles to see as much as I could. There are a few things you must do when in Rome and a few things you should avoid. Here’s my list:

Hove Place Bistro Pub & Gardens

IMG_9581I was definitely not expecting to find this little gem on a side street off Church Road. Yes, the first time I went to Hove Place was totally by chance and I definitely don’t regret it!  I’ve been there more times now and to say it’s amazing is an understatement.

Before I go over why I think it’s so good I want to apologise for the low quality pictures but it was quite dark and my camera has gone funny lately (if anyone is a Canon pro and can help me with aperture – contact me!).

So, back to Hove Place. This pub actually doesn’t feel like a pub at all and has an amazing bistro feel. The music is also very pleasant and the staff is extremely friendly.

About stress: are we working too hard?

tumblr_mfsvpxR8DE1s0dqi6o1_500_largeWe’ve all heard the word stress and we’ve all felt it, some more often than others. However, it has become more and more normal to see people putting in extra work hours, skipping lunch and drinking way too much caffeine.

I am no exception. Stress and I are good friends and lately we’ve been hanging out a lot. I often work late and worry about work during the weekend but I ask: when did we start accepting that putting all this pressure on ourselves is OK?

I mean, we all know that stress is a negative thing. No one wants to be stressed but in spite of this, we work ourselves to exhaustion.

Sunday Pleasures: Healthy Carrot Muffins

12540543_10153437116652198_4239283496825013182_nA few days ago I saw this amazing carrot muffin recipe and I decided I had to try it. These muffins taste incredibly good even though they have no sugar in them (just a little bit sprinkled on top)! They’re made with carrots and honey and you can easily eat 4 in a row (not that I did that…).

I used regular wholemeal flower as opposed to white wholemeal flower and honey as opposed to maple syrup so the muffins turned out a lot browner than the ones in Cookie & Kate. They still tasted really good though so whichever you try, you will love it! This recipe takes 15mins to prepare and about 30mins to cook.

Why you don’t have to have it all figured out

girlcigarette2At the beginning of the year we all have the urge to make changes. Most of us start thinking about the past year, what we’ve achieved and where we are in life. I know I do that quite a lot. I also know some people have that constant fear of failing and not being where they thought they would be. A lot of people compare themselves to others and wonder why they don’t have it all figured out.

SPOLER ALERT: You don’t have to have it all figured out, and here’s why:

Breakfast at Cafe Motu

IMG_9082Today I woke up craving an English breakfast.

I know, I know. Fry-ups are totally unhealthy and very against my 2016 healthy eating goal. I really wanted eggs though. And bacon…I really felt like eating bacon. It doesn’t help that my fella is as much of a food lover as I am (can I blame it on him please??).

Anyway, we finally managed to roll out of bed and head to town with our friend. The sun was out so I took a few shots in the Lanes, one of my favourite places in Brighton. Continue reading

My 8 favourite Instagram accounts of 2015

Instagram I’m an Instagram addict.

Although I use other forms of social media, Instagram is by far my favourite. In fact it’s the first app I check every morning and the last I check before going to bed. I’m not an Instagram pro and I don’t have a theme (I know it’s become quite trendy to have a theme on Instagram like all whiter photos, etc.) but I love it.

I follow a lot of accounts (when I say a lot, I mean A LOT) for different reasons. All of them inspire me in some way: some of them give me travel inspiration, some of them give me recipe ideas and some of them are just plain pretty. As 2015 has come to an end, I thought it would be good to share with you the ones I visited religiously during 2015. Trust me, some of these will make your day.

So, in no particular order, these were my favourite Instagram accounts of 2015:

About my blogging break

IMG_8672Four months…WOW! Yes, I’ve been MIA for a long time now but the truth is I just wasn’t inclined to blog. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it and I did miss it but I just wasn’t inspired (I guess that’s what they call bloggers block, huh?). I had a lot going on and to be totally honest it felt good not to worry about the blog all the time. I stopped looking at my stats (which totally dropped by the way) and decided to take a break from it all.
